I have had some comments that some have had problems when they try to print
out my newsletters from the e-mail or the web site. I have to admit I did
not allow for this in my first ones, however I am trying to create them in a
narrower format so they will print properly.
If this is still a problem for you perhaps you can use this tip: Go to my web site at www.thecomputerman.biz. Click on the link to More Pages. Then click on the Newsletters Link. Click on the link to the newsletter you want to view and print. In the Internet Explorer menu at the top of the page click on File. Click on Print Preview. If the page looks like it is all fitting on the page width then you can safely print it. If it is not fitting on the width of the page in the preview window....you need to adjust the page margins. To adjust the page margins, Click on "Close" to exit the print preview screen. Once again click on File and then click on Page Setup. In the window that pops up, change the left and right margins each to "0" (zero) and the top and bottom margins to .25 each. Now go back and try the Print Preview and see if all the page is showing. If so, then it is safe to print. This tip is useful to try before printing any web page. By the way, this setting should remain like that when you return to Internet Explorer, so you should not have to re-set it again. Hope this helps.... |

Here is something you may want to know if you are considering switching to
the "Voice Over Broadband Internet" phone services....
Consumers who are considering buying Internet-based telephone
services such as Voice over Internet Protocol, should be aware that not
all these services provide access to the 9-1-1 emergency network. When an
Internet-based telephone service does provide 9-1-1 service, it may not be
the full service many residents are accustomed to receiving via wire line
telephones. VoIP allows users to make telephone calls using a broadband
Internet connection instead of a regular (or analog) phone line, but
unlike wire line telephones, they do not always automatically show
emergency service providers the caller's location. It is a feature that
allows emergency personnel to find the location if the caller is not able
to provide an address. Anyone considering an Internet-based telephone
should ensure that they can dial 9-1-1 from their VoIP phone, that it goes
to the correct 9-1-1 call center and that the call center receives
complete location information. "If you are considering a telephone service
that does not include tradition 9-1-1 service, you should ask yourself how
members of your household, including children, visitors and babysitters
will call for help in an emergency," said Bill Stevens, 9-1-1 Coordinator
for Sarasota County. "Don't forget they will have to know your address and
be able to communicate it to emergency personnel."

Here's another tip for Microsoft
Word....(May vary with your version of Word)
— Print Documents in Reverse:
Many ink-jet printers typically stack multipage documents with
the first page on the bottom, which forces you to collate the
copies in the correct page order. This can be a time-consuming
process, particularly if you're on your way to a meeting!
However, you can configure the printer to print the pages in
descending order to avoid this scenario! Follow these steps:
1. Go to File | Print.
2. Click the Options button. 3. Select the Reverse Print Order check box, and click OK twice.
This change applies to the current document. If you want to
make this a permanent change and you intend to use the same
printer for all of your print jobs, go to Tools | Options, and
select the Reverse Print Order check box on the Print tab.
This applies the change to all documents!

Here are a couple of
computer tips for you: |

INTERNET — Using the Right Search Engine:
Those of you familiar with searching on the Web are probably already
aware the "Google" is currently considered the "best" search engine
out
there. Well, that's true for many searches, but there may be times you
want to try another, and here's why: Google chooses the order of
search
results, not by finding which results most closely match your search
request,
but by which are the most "popular" sites that (closely) match your
search
request. They define "popular" by noting how many other sites link to
the
matching site. This popularity approach may therefore keep "unpopular"
but close matches from appearing in the results list! So, if you're
looking
for information in which "popularity" is not important, you may want
to
try another search engine. Here are a couple of good ones (and they're
links:
you should be able to click on them and go right to them):

Keyboard shortcuts for left-handed users:
Though it may seem at times as if the world was desgined with onlyright-handed people in mind, Windows has a few keyboard shortcutsdesigned for the lefties! Lefties definitely find it cumbersome to use the Cut, Copy, andPaste keyboard shortcuts. [Ctrl]X, [Ctrl]C and [Ctrl]V are onlyaccessible if you're using your left hand, but since lefties areusing their left hand on the mouse, Windows has also created thesehandy shortcuts on the right side of the keyboard. For Left-Handers Cut : [Shift][Delete] Copy : [Ctrl][Insert] Paste : [Shift][Insert] Undo : [Alt][Backspace] Unfortunately, not all applications work with these shortcuts. Do someexperimenting to find out whether your applications include theseshortcuts for lefties!

Windows-Printer — Laptop Printing:
If you're a laptop user who'd
like to send documents to a printer immediately,
even when you're not connected to any
printer (for example, when you're out of town),
here's how!
Navigate to Start | Settings | Printers.
The print jobs will be held on disk,
surviving reboots. When the laptop is reconnected to the printer, repeat
the steps to disable the Use Printer Offline option. All queued print
jobs will now print! |
